Water and Sanitation Project at Nimpura, West Bengal

YSS has been undertaking leprosy relief work for the afflicted inmates at Vidyasagar (Leprosy) Colony at Nimpura, in Kharagpur, West Bengal for the past several years. This year, an extensive project for providing drinking water and sanitation to the colony was undertaken, which made a marked difference in the living conditions of its residents.

YSS, in a joint venture with Rotary Club of Calcutta, Victoria, provided a bore-well for supplying drinking water to Pratibandhi Punarbasan Kendra: a residential school at Nimpura, catering to economically backward, physically and mentally challenged children.

YSS also undertook the project of providing drinking water to the local residents in the vicinity of YSS Kendra at Nimpura, because of dire need in the area.

Vidyasagar Pally Leprosy Colony, Nimpura

Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Calcutta, Victoria, also donated six hand-operated tricycles to the inmates of Vidyasagar Pally Leprosy Colony, Nimpura. The tricycles enable easier commuting for those whose lower limbs have been affected by leprosy.

Ten hearing-impaired children, aged 7 - 15, of the Pratibandi Punarbasan Kendra, were provided with hearing aids. These children are now able to respond to voices, in addition to the sign language through which they communicate.

Homeopathy Dispensary at Serampore

The YSS Homeopathic Dispensary, which was at YSS Dhyana Kendra at Serampore, has been transferred to a newly acquired building at Rai Ghat Lane (at walking distance from the YSS Dhyana Kendra and close to the Bathing Ghat where Babaji had met Swami Sri Yukteswarji.) This dispensary became operational in April 2009.


Restoration of Anandalok

Extensive renovation work has started at the Serampore Kendra building which also houses a sacred shrine “Anandalok” dedicated to Gurudeva (as he stayed in this room during his college days). The walls of this heritage building which are over 120 years old, have become weak and cracks have appeared at several places. We took up grouting and re-plastering of its walls, and repair of the roof and ceiling, taking care not to alter the old architectural design. Upgrading and renovation of the toilets is also being done.
