Leprosy Colonies
Persons suffering from leprosy cannot visit regular hospitals even for common medical problems such as cough and cold, viral fever, or eye treatment, as there is some stigma attached to this disease. YSS has adopted two leprosy colonies at Ranchi where our doctors visit twice a week to take care of the inmates' medical needs. We had also organized an eye camp for them.
In addition, we have taken up the project for early detection of leprosy in low-income residential areas near the Ranchi ashram. We conduct a yearly leprosy detection camp.
YSS has been serving the inmates of the Vidyasagar Pally Leprosy Colony in Nimpura, Kharagpur, West Bengal, for many years. We have stepped up the homeopathic service, with three doctors now serving there. More than 2,500 patients received the benefit of free treatment, including medicines. We continue to provide a dresser with supplies and thus take care of the afflicted, who require regular bandaging of their wounds.
We are also running a free coaching centre to help the children of the leprosy colony. We encourage the youngsters to participate in football and other sports by organizing sporting events. We are currently planning self-help projects for the adults to enable them to earn some income.

Our active involvement in service activities in this area has helped achieve a harmony and community feeling throughout the whole Tangra region.
